From Classroom to Camera: A New Chapter Rooted in Community

After 25 years in the classroom at the same small rural school that helped shape who I am today, I’m stepping into a brand-new chapter — one that still centers around people, relationships, and preserving meaningful moments.

This school has always been more than just a workplace to me. It’s home.

I walked those halls first as a student from 3rd through 8th grade, proudly graduating as Valedictorian of my 8th grade class. Years later, I returned as a teacher and spent the next 25 years investing in students, families, and a community I love deeply. Even my own children attended the same school, making the connection even more special.

 

Over the years, many of my students became lifelong friends. Some became family. Many became photography clients. Watching children grow into young adults, celebrating milestones with families, and capturing life’s important moments has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Now, as I retire from teaching, I’m excited to devote my heart fully to photography (and grandchildren).

Photography allows me to continue doing what I’ve always loved most — connecting with people and preserving memories that matter.

While I specialize in high school senior portraiture, I also love capturing milestone birthdays, engagement sessions, and candid couples photography filled with genuine connection and personality. My goal has never been just to take pictures. I want every session to tell a story and reflect the people behind the smiles.

 

To celebrate this transition, I’m launching a special promotion called “From Classroom to Camera.”

As a thank-you to the community that has supported me through every season of life, I’m offering 25% off photography sessions for a limited time in honor of my 25 years of service to the same community that raised me.

This promotion represents so much more than a discount. It represents gratitude.

Thank you to every student, parent, coworker, friend, and client who has encouraged me along the way. Thank you for trusting me in the classroom and now in front of my camera lens. Your support means more than words can express.

 

Working with two former students to create a beautiful, intimate gender reveal was such a special experience. I always put a lot of time and energy into getting to know my clients before a session so I can create images that feel personal and true to them. This day will always rank among my favorite photo shoots.

I may be leaving the classroom, but I’m still here to celebrate your stories, your milestones, and your memories — just in a different way.

I can’t wait to see where this next chapter leads.

Butterfly Season

Leaving is bittersweet. This has been my second home for 25 years. No tears - just new chapters.

Our media specialist captured this image one year after the original floors were freshly waxed. It inspired me to reflect on all the teachers, staff, and students who have passed through this hallway over the years. Some are no longer with us, some I know personally, and some I may have forgotten, but we all shared one thing in common: we were part of the same family and deeply rooted in this foundation.
